How to use gravity to combat curled edges on your mat?

Unroll the mat, as flat as you can get it. Then, flip it over and reroll the mat with the fibre outwards. Creating this opposing new curl shape will in effect straighten the curled mat. Keep it rolled up (longer for thicker/less for thinner mats) and check it every so often until the previously upturned (curled) corners are laying flat as desired.

Choosing the correct entrance mat

Research shows that about 70% of dirt and dust in any building is brought in via pedestrians.

This makes selecting a quality OH&S approved matting system that traps dirt and dust, whilst drying the shoe, for your School imperative.

A potential slip can start with the mat moving on the floor surface causing a hump or uneven surface. A cleated backing is advised for greater stability on carpeted surfaces. These small rubber protrusions, moulded to the rubber backing, coalesce with the carpet fibres and greatly reduce movement. For greater stability on a tiled or smooth surface, a genuine rubber backed product with a smooth underside is recommended.

Many Mats only have a very thin edge which is simply a continuation of the backing. With constant foot traffic they slowly lift, causing the mat edges to curl or break. The exposed fibre is then subject to wear from the side causing delamination from the backing and a severe trip hazard.

With so many hundreds of matting products available, how do I know which one will work?

Products such as Entrano Premier #295 Entrance Matting have a moulded bevelled edge which is ramped up to the height of the matting fibre, causing a much stronger construction. These mats are sold with a 3 Year Warranty against edges curling!

Most Entrance Matting will work reasonably well when it’s brand new, but constant wear and heavy foot traffic flattens the fibre, making the top surface lose its brush effect and removing the high and low pattern which is what cleans the shoe. A mat that has flattened allows dirt to sit on top of the mat to be tracked on further by the next footstep.

Professional Matting consultants are now recommending Entrano Premier #295 which has rubber protruding from the backing up into the high parts of the pattern – underneath the fibre. These re-enforced mats do not flatten and provide the longest life and the best shoe clean.

How to Install Gym Matting?

Installing gym matting in your home is quite easy. Simply follow these steps for the perfect fit and finish.
Rubber Roll with Glue

Make sure the sub-floor upon which you are going to lay the gym matting is clean and free from dirt, grime and moisture. Spread the glue on the sub-floor and roll out the rubber mats. Trim the excess rubber once you’ve reached the edge with the help of a utility knife. You would need a carpet roller to firmly set the gym matting in place or if you do not have one, stomp away on the floor and the rubber will be stuck in place.

Rubber Roll With Double Sided Tape

If you are using a rubber roll with double sided tape, roll out the rubber mats and cut off the excess rubber with a utility knife once you have reached the edge. Then gently apply the double sided tape to the perimeter of the roll. Take out the release paper and push down the rubber firmly in its place. It will take about an hour for the adhesive to set. Then use a carpet roller to press down the rubber tight or stomp around till it is firmly set.

Interlocking Rubber Tiles

Rubber tiles come in three styles: centre, corner and border. Start placing the tiles from the centre of the room and keep going until you reach the edge. Measure the corners and edges and cut tiles to the desired size using a utility knife. You can also start from the corner or border tiles and fill up the centre using centre tiles. They are simple to install as they can be interlocked.

Bi level entrance mat, What is Unique About it….

Entrance Matting of the ‘Entrano’ range is unique as it is a bi level entrance mat rubber re-inforced fibre pattern. The fibre thickness through out the mat is consistent with the mat pattern created from the rubber backing being raised in the pattern of the mat.  By the Entrano range being reinforced it means the rubber stops the fibre pattern from being crushed due to heavy and extreme traffic.

How does the bi level entrance mat range increase moisture capture?

With standard entrance mats they are flat, therefore where the moisture in captures is exactly the place where it evaporated therefore with heavy rain the mat potentially with get saturated with heavy traffic.  With the Entrance range the moisture is absorbed on the raised pattern, the moisture falls through the fibre to the top surface of the raised rubber reinforcement.  The moisture therefore flows down the impervious rubber to the low point for evaporation.  Therefore this means the moisture in captured in the different place to where it evaporates increasing the rate of absorbtion and evaporation. This also mean the low ridges can be completely filled with moisture during heavy rain and not affect the rate of absorbtion.

From the date of purchase to replacement the herringbone, diamond or square pattern will always be present increasing the effective life period of the Entrano Entrance Mat.

How does the bi level entrance Matting range increase dirt capture?

By having a bi-level construction always present (ups and downs) the dirt is scrapped of in the high points to be captured in the low points to be removed via vacuum. This therefore leaves a clean top surface to capture dirt from the next shoe.
